2008 Olympic Trampoline WinnersIn the recent Beijing Olympics, China captured its first gold in men’s and women’s gymnastics trampoline courtesy of Lu Chunlong and He Wenna respectively. Both brought home the first gold medals for their country in trampoline.

Going in as the top qualifier in men’s gymnastics trampoline, Chunlong scored a 41.00 to win gold. His routine had a difficulty rating of 16.20, equal to that of three other finalists, and through his precise execution, Lu was able to rise above the competition taking the highest honor. Jason Burnett of Canada, seventh-placed qualifier, had the highest difficulty rating of 16.80 in the finals, and earned silver with a score of 40.70. The youngest competitor in men’s gymnastics trampoline, Dong Dong of China at age 19, took bronze with a score of 40.60. Burnett, Chunlong, and Dong, all set records for their respective countries by taking their individual highest honors.

Wenna scored a 37.80 to take the gold in the women’s gymnastics trampoline. Karen Cockburn of Canada took silver with a score of 37.00 during the final. She adds to her individual medal count having taken bronze in Sydney 2000 and silver in Athens 2004. Ekaterina Khilko of Uzbekistan took the bronze with a score of 36.90. This is the first medal in trampoline history for her country.
